MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Charlene Gayle, Executive Director
On behalf of the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc. (NYSABPRL), I welcome you to join us for our upcoming 49th Annual Legislative Conference in Albany, New York, from Friday, February 14th to 16th, 2020. NYSABPRL’s annual convention has always been and will continue to be the arena at which community service, educational advancement, community development, and economic development across the state is recognized.
NYSABPRHAL’s vision is to maintain and expand the existing programs that benefit our communities on a statewide basis, partnering with our legislative leaders, local community stakeholders, activists, advocates, community-based organizations, labor and corporate America to attend to this vision. The 49th Annual Legislative Conference is comprised of a series of educational events and networking opportunities to provide relevant resources to attendees of all ages.
Our theme this year is centered around the importance of the upcoming Census: “There is Power In Numbers...Get Counted”. The 49th Annual Legislative Conference will bring together the most influential African-American, Hispanic-American, Caribbean-American and Asian-American leaders from every corner of the Empire State and the United States, to present and discuss the New York’s most important issues and set the agenda for the year.
Starting in 2017, Chairwoman Latrice Walker, Esq., made attracting young professionals from all fields one of NYSABPRL’s priorities. This year the Association will continue Chairwoman Walker's initiative to engage and increase the participation of Young Professionals by hosting a series of Events & Workshops for them.
The weekend events begin with our Chair's Reception on Friday evening at the Capital Center. The Second Annual Prayer Breakfast kicks off Saturday . Throughout the rest of the day, we will be hosting issue-focused Workshops sponsored by NYSABPRL’s members, our Annual Youth Summit, the Career and Business Expo, the Craft Exhibition Fair, and our well attended Annual Labor Luncheon. On Saturday evening various organizations will be hosting receptions in the Hilton Hotel. On Sunday morning, we take time to attend church service -- as our ancestors did – at Wilborn Temple, in Albany.
On Sunday evening, our weekend convention is culminated by the 50th Annual Gala Scholarship Dinner and awards ceremony. We consider this one of our most important events. The 49th Annual Gala's success allowed the Association to issue over 50 Scholarship to selected recipients in 2019. As such, NYSABPRL encourages everyone to join us at our Annual Scholarship Dinner Gala, and to support our members’ scholarship initiatives through the purchase of tickets for the 49th Annual Gala Dinner (the net proceeds from which will be awarded to students of color seeking higher education at institutions across New York State).
For more information or to register for the weekend’s events, or to purchase weekend passes and tickets, please contact the undersigned or the NYSABPRHAL staff at (518) 427-8363 or email tickets@nysabprlinc.org .We look forward to you joining us at the 50th Annual Legislative Conference and to partnering with for our future events and initiatives. Thank you for your continued support of our mission and current agenda.
