When the Association was founded in 1985, it was created with a clear and vital purpose: to carry the mission of the Legislative Caucus beyond the walls of government and into the communities that government exists to serve. As a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Association operates as the programmatic, educational, convening, and public-facing arm of a movement that began nearly six decades ago — and that grows stronger with each passing year.

As Executive Director, I have the privilege of leading the day-to-day work of making that mission real. That work is wide-ranging and deeply personal. It means organizing our Annual Legislative Conference — the signature Caucus Weekend that brings together thousands of elected officials, advocates, business leaders, labor partners, faith leaders, and community stakeholders from every corner of New York State. It means administering scholarships and youth leadership programs that invest directly in the next generation. It means convening cross-sector policy discussions that turn ideas into action. It means promoting economic empowerment and MWBE engagement so that prosperity reaches every community. And it means preserving and elevating the extraordinary history of legislators of color in New York — a history that too often goes untold.

Behind everything we do is a simple belief: that the communities who have always been the backbone of this state deserve an institution that works for them — not during election cycles, not when cameras are rolling, but every single day. The Association is that institution.

We are the bridge between the power of the Caucus and the people that power is meant to serve. We are the space where policy meets community, where legacy meets innovation, and where the next generation of leaders finds its voice.
