The New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislators, Inc. is proud to announce the launch of its 2026 College Scholarship Program. We are calling on students across New York State — from every borough, county, and community — to apply for financial support that can help turn the promise of higher education into a reality.

Applications are now being accepted at scholarapp.nysabprlinc.org.

Higher education remains one of the most powerful engines of economic mobility, wealth-building, and generational change — but only when it is accessible. For too many students in historically marginalized communities, financial barriers stand between talent and opportunity, between aspiration and achievement. The NYSABPRHAL College Scholarship Program exists to remove those barriers.

As a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Association is committed to promoting the common good by facilitating access to college education for economically disadvantaged New Yorkers. This is not simply a funding initiative — it is a statement of belief: that every student who has the drive, the discipline, and the desire to earn a degree deserves the chance to do so, regardless of their family's financial circumstances.

Under the leadership of Chairwoman Latrice Walker, the Association has awarded more than $160,000 in scholarships to students attending colleges and universities across New York State — and our commitment continues to grow.

The NYSABPRHAL College Scholarship Program is open to students from economically disadvantaged and low- to moderate-income families who are pursuing higher education at accredited colleges and universities in New York State. The Scholarship Selection Panel evaluates applicants based on a combination of:

• Academic Merit — demonstrated excellence in the classroom and a commitment to continued achievement.
• Financial Need — priority is given to students for whom scholarship support will make the most meaningful difference in their ability to attend and complete college.
• Community Involvement — a demonstrated record of service, leadership, and engagement in their communities, reflecting the Association's belief that the strongest leaders are forged not only in the classroom but in service to others.

Talented applicants who rise to the top of the merit pool are also evaluated in the context of financial need — ensuring that scholarships reach the students who need them most.
